Vienna Circle

"Vienna Circle are one of the most ingenious and compelling bands our homegrown scene has to offer."

Vienna Circle are the brothers Jack and Paul Davis.

After growing up in rural Wiltshire on a diet of Pink Floyd, the Beatles and Dream Theater, they self-released their debut album “White Clouds” in 2008. To their surprise and delight, it earned positive reviews in the press where they were flagged as rising stars in the progressive rock community.

Inspired to live up to these demands, they started writing a new album in late 2009. By 2011 they hired producer Tom Davenport to scale up their sound, who took them to work with engineer Rupert Matthews at Monkey Puzzle House studios, best known for Porcupine Tree’s “The Incident”.

With session musician Alex Micklewright on drums, they took the tracks home for months of delicate post-production and orchestral flourishes.

The final mix was by Edd Hartwell, another Wiltshire native who was also an understudy to renown producer Trevor Horn, and his contribution helps “Silhouette Moon” stand proud as a quality progressive rock album.

Silhouette Moon might be an independent release, but it makes no compromises on Vienna Circle’s original vision. That’s one set of values you can count on the band to deliver throughout their career.

Strangers

Davis / Davis
© 2013 Audio Treehouse / ℗ 2013 Audio Treehouse

From raging storms of kindred tears
to summers love in whispered ears
of strangers.

Their eyes will meet the scene is set,
these rival foes at dissidence
are unaware.

Fair rose I'm told lay not before
this house of thorn in ageing war,
it's open.

Forlorn; foreseen as woken dream.
Becloud belief,
despondency of happiness.

Envy

Davis / Davis
© 2013 Audio Treehouse / ℗ 2013 Audio Treehouse

I'm cold, alone,
bare and empty.
It's fine for you
who live in tints of gold.

And I to you,
enslaved by envy.
Resigned to lose
and find my eyes in gold.

My sky's removed
and eyes are grounded.
It's time for you
to see my life so cold.

Dreams Presage

Davis / Davis
© 2013 Audio Treehouse / ℗ 2013 Audio Treehouse

Wreathed in dreams a fading light;
floating cold and passive in control.
If I may trust my sleepers eyes
my dreams presage some woeful fate.

Seething plague of the mind?
Or priceless pearl from force divine?
On and on beyond in time,
our dreams presage the changing days.

The poets glimpse is in his rhymes.
A flash for the politician callous in reply.
A glance for thieves portrayed in crimes.
Their dreams presage of unchanging ways.

Windows in the wall appear when questioned,
curtained placements I have seen.

Shadows on the floor contrast,
explore the ones that last for what you need.

Situations, conversations, expectations;
ever changing scenes.

Answers in demand to understand these crux un- coverings
we dream.

For the people in the rain, shelters on the way.
All the people led astray, soon you'll find your way.
For the soldier in the field, waiting to be killed.
For the orphan all alone, left without a home.
For the preacher out of faith, faith will find a way.
For the undertaker's son, buried with his gun.
Just listen for the lark's song.

All around the people say they're waiting to awake,
to make these broken hearts go.

Scarlet Dance

Davis / Davis
© 2013 Audio Treehouse / ℗ 2013 Audio Treehouse

Chasing scarlet flow,
the fruits that feed the flames.
I've kissed the grace of dawn
and soundlessly escaped.

And all the feelings vibrant,
and all the leaves of scarlet dance.

The elevations join
and linger on display.
It's swirling in my mind
in illuminated waves.

And chosen winds will follow,
and all is warm of vital breath.
And all the feelings vibrant,
and all the leaves of scarlet dance.

Woven Wings

Davis / Davis
© 2013 Audio Treehouse / ℗ 2013 Audio Treehouse

Hear the thunder of resounding winds
over distances far.
Speak a word and I will hear within
and I'll know where you are.

Eagle of the night
changing his flight.

Oh, but for a moment as a butterfly
over midsummers green,
skimming beams of golden mirrored light ...
To think is to be?

Suddenly sunshine,
suddenly I'm fine.
Escape from design,
just you and I.

There's a river on the border line
with a presence of the Sea.
Oh, to sail the world with open eyes ...
Or be kept from being free?

For all that I know maybe wrong;
and questions unsolved
but the eagle has flown.

Ballad Of Night

Davis / Davis
© 2013 Audio Treehouse / ℗ 2013 Audio Treehouse

Sometimes in the evening late,
I drift between unconsciousness and fate;
and when a breath redefines my aim
I come around again.

How deep does the time suspend?
A pendent hangs displaying what it may;
and when a voice or a force transcends
I come around again.

Sometimes under stars domain,
a silhouette of drunks are on the stage;
they perform with unbridled shame
and come around again.

And sometimes I sit around and wait,
and piece together innocence and faith;
and then I find that the winds have changed
for the suns ascent.

You and I we're stuck in paradise,
stuck in my mind.

Sea

Davis / Davis
© 2013 Audio Treehouse / ℗ 2013 Audio Treehouse

Song for the ocean;
song for the sea that won't let me go ...

Reflection of the Universe
on tones of the deep;
Follow me down... All the way down.

I'll rise under whistling winds
and God be my sail;
Cradled in waves... Bathed to decay.

Follow me down.

Together

Davis / Davis
© 2013 Audio Treehouse / ℗ 2013 Audio Treehouse

Together now with solemn brow,
in loving arms impassioned words are spoken.
Encounter of exploring eyes,
an ardent gaze on beauty finds devotion.

While all of us have been alone,
not all of us have felt or known or understand.
The faintest breeze will sweep her gown,
her flowing hair lay hanging down her shoulders.

Too scared to sleep for fear of waking incomplete
and recognizing all the dream ...

The dreamer dreams elusively,
the seer sees eternity; it's open.

As soon as it rains
flowers are in the bay,
and soon as it rains
flowers are in the glades.

Merry Christmas Everyone

Davis / Davis
© 2013 Audio Treehouse / ℗ 2013 Audio Treehouse

Joy to all for Christmas is coming
outside the snow is now falling down.
White velvet, a covering blanket
and majestic hammering of the bells.
Merry Christmas everyone!

Morning songbird singing
peacefully,
a new day is calling ...
calling me.

Joy to all for Christmas is coming.
Be sure to wear your coat so warm.
Young faces reciting from pages
and carollers are welcome at every door.

Merry Christmas everyone!

White Clouds (Beginning)

Davis / Davis

The cool breeze upon the shore
feels like home.
But I feel its time I have to leave,
I must move on.

There will be white clouds
beyond the hills.

The sun shines and seagulls fly;
feels like home.
The city life is calling me,
I must move on.

First Night In Berlin

Davis / Davis
© 2013 Audio Treehouse / ℗ 2013 Audio Treehouse

New to the city and so much to see.
You came to greet me,
no better place to be.
Follow me, there's much to see
and friends to meet;
here's to your first day
on this Berlin street.

Five months have gone now,
a war is declared;
friends now ignore me,
their hands are stained red.
They move in crowds
and sing aloud,
ready for war...
"Deutschland Deutschland,
Will conquer all".

I walk through the city,
the picture looks bleak.
Can't draw attention;
in their language i'll speak.
"Are you, English?"
I just can't admit;
where will I go to?

Stars Of May

Davis / Davis
© 2013 Audio Treehouse / ℗ 2013 Audio Treehouse

Pack the essentials
I'm planning to leave tonight.
Must be tonight ...
Mile after mile under darkness
with tired eyes and tired pride.

Please sir I'm asking for help
won't you change your mind.
But no reply ...
Lay back and look at the stars;
hope for better times and drift away.

As a child you always have someone;
go and play and spend the day out in the open sun.

Use your time to get to where you want.
No disguise 'cause this will send you right back to the start.

I've made mistakes but so has everyone.
In this place theirs much to say but there's no need for guns.

If I awake will this all go away?
If I awake will it end the suffering?

The Morning Fields Of Amber Grey

I walked on my own and found a place I knew,
there's signs that the war has past though.
From holes in the walls to no walls at all,
so I couldn't sleep all night long.
As fountains of memories fill my mind,
will this be the worst that I find?
I cannot believe what I see, it's true
I'll get through it by thinking of you.

Paint a picture in my heart,
Distant thoughts are all I have.
I'll find you.

Remember the child that once played here?
He'd run in the dark without fear.
I now see a man on the ground white faced
whose been left there to die in this place.

Hold me up to the light
I will search for you.
There will be no sacrifice;
I will fight for you
and I will return again,
And I will be there for you.

No mask that will defend me;
Tears from my eyes evaporate.
You can't break through my disguise,
Its my last chance to change my mind.
I takes time to determine,
what's right, what's wrong, I want to know.
And each day I'll need the strength to see that
I'll live and breathe another day.

You have no place to run, from disaster.
You have no place to run, so run faster.

You will not be alone for much longer,
I will end this war.

Falling

Davis / Davis
© 2013 Audio Treehouse / ℗ 2013 Audio Treehouse

Can you see them marching?
They're walking over me.
We'll write a hymn for the fallen;
'They will not bury me'.

If I knew that morning,
there'd be no point in calling.
And I wish you could see me,
I just feel like I'm falling down.

My feelings have grown so much here,
I've got some words to say.
I've missed you, through all that I've been through
give us another day.

Then maybe you will find out ...

A Break In The Clouds

Davis / Davis
© 2013 Audio Treehouse / ℗ 2013 Audio Treehouse

Could it be
that all of our dreams
are now gone forever?

I realise
that every step I take to the line
maybe my last and they're towards you.

And they'll take away our future
but I'll be strong,
I'll find out the hard way.
And if the day comes,
I'll run to you
'Cause my hearts full of pain;
With you it remains.

Thinking back
to the way it all began ...
It all began with the world at my feet.
Sitting here
writing letters its cold and I pray
that one day our paths will cross again.

(all of our dreams)

Conquered Air

Davis / Davis
© 2013 Audio Treehouse / ℗ 2013 Audio Treehouse

August 5th: A cold and open night,
I can hear the breeze;
I can hear the sounds of the night.
I can't sleep, I can't close my eyes.
Something doesn't feel right ...
I can't hear the thoughts in my mind.

A new day is dawning ...
A rising sun,
a weathered pencil drawing in the mud.
The train is still boarding, there faces glum;
the captain brings the orders to leave at once.
And everybody's looking up to the sky
and praying for the conquered air.

Tell me the story
of when its done,
the fine details of glory and whats to come.
When everybody's looking up to the sky
as if to see the conquered air.

God I pray to give me strength and help today,
Help me stay safe ...
Oh lord hear me now.

Run over open ground,
can't enshroud anymore.
Look out across the land,
flailing hands go down.
Push on we must advance
through the guns and the gas.
Rain falling from white clouds,
wash the blood from our hands.

I tried to be as strong as I could be
but the pain is just too much,
I'm cold and I can't go on.
Hold off sleep,
don't take me now.

August 6th: A cold and lonely night,
I can't hear the breeze,
I can hear the sounds of the night;
I can hear the thoughts in my mind.

Her Green Eyes Blew Goodbye

Davis / Davis

Look at the people time's erased.
There's nowhere to turn it won't go away.
Look at the way this place has changed.
The world is a ruin,
take me away.

See all the tears run down his face;
one face in a million won't be replaced.
Bullets on the ground, burnt buildings lay;
The world has an illness.

I swore I'd see it,
the apologies are there.
I was trying to find my way home to you.

Then on the ground
I found the words you left for me.
And my heart was grieving for all I believed in,
All I believed in then.

Now i've been found
they will see the words i wrote for you
of how my hearts been bleeding for all I believed in,
oh I believed in you.

White Clouds (Finale)

Fear is believing there's no hope,
and I'd give all I have to give
to be home.

There will be white clouds
beyond the hills.

Fear is believing there's no hope,
And I know it's time I have to leave,
I must move on.

Come with me we'll find a place to go,
I will be the one who lifts you up.
Look to the clouds and mourn the millions
gone that kept their pride.
